The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition in the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications for an open rank, 9-month, tenure system position in biomechanics. Start-up support and teaching load will be competitive. Rank/tenure will be commensurate with qualifications.

The successful candidate will have an established track record or will have demonstrated the potential for interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to the biomechanical study of human movement, including but not limited to enhancing mobility and/or function across the lifespan in people with or without musculoskeletal or neurological impairments. The candidate’s research should complement or expand departmental strengths in the areas of joint biomechanics, neural-control of movement, fall prevention, and rehabilitation in conditions that include but are not limited to lower limb amputation or osteoarthritis. A PhD or MD in a related field is required.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and mentoring. Duties will include successfully competing for external funding, mentoring and teaching undergraduate and graduate students, and contributing to the department’s curriculum. Intradepartmental collaborations with nutrition, and interdepartmental collaborations with bioengineering or medicine, are encouraged.

Faculty in the Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition maintain highly productive lines of research supported by funding from federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, and Department of Defense, as well as various industries and foundations. The department’s strengths include biomechanics, exercise physiology, exercise psychology, and nutrition. The Department houses an instrumented motion analysis laboratory for conducting rigorous and detailed biomechanical studies.
