It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Kazuo Ishikawa.

Dr. Ishikawa (respectfully referred to as Ishikawa-sensei) made significant contributions to ISPGR over many years. His research focused on balance control, dizziness, and vestibular compensation, consistently striving to integrate basic and clinical sciences. Ishikawa-sensei’s involvement with ISPGR dates back to the 1983 congress in Houston. A highlight of his contributions was undoubtedly his role as a congress chair for the 2013 Akita meeting, which he successfully organized despite the challenges posed by the 2011 earthquake that had forced its postponement.

Ishikawa-sensei was an outstanding researcher, beloved leader and boss in the Posture and Gait research community, both in Japan and internationally. His presence and guidance will be deeply missed.

Dr. Gobbi (or simply Lilian) has been a long-standing member of ISPGR and an important figure in our field. She was a PhD student who trained under Dr. Patla in the 90’s, and held a Professor position at the University of Sao Paulo State, Rio Claro, Brazil. Lilian ran an exceptional program of research in Brazil, and moreover she was a phenomenal mentor taking every opportunity to welcome you into her home and family. She cared deeply for her students and colleagues and has left a legacy of talented researchers who continue to progress science forward with remarkable innovation and rigour.

Lilian touched the lives of so many of us. She was an outstanding teacher, an inspiring researcher, and a dear friend.

You mean I have non faculty options in academia after my doctorate?

March 31, 2021, 21:00 UTC

Academic positions do not always have to involve teaching or lead to professorship. In this session hosted by the External Relations Committee, we will hear from two PhDs about their non-faculty academic careers. Dr. Comali and Dr. Cone will describe the motivations for choosing their career path and provide insight into their day-to-day activities as Assistant Director of a human research protection office, and an Academic Advisor at a university in the US. Following their presentation, they will participate in a panel discussion to answer any questions that attendees may have about a non-faculty career in academia.

The symposium will consist of keynote presentations and live Q&A over a duration of approximately an hour.

Register now to participate in this free online event.
